First weigh in
Weight 181
Waist 44
Loss of 4 lbs and one inch.
It was a good week. And encouraging.
I wish it had been 15 lbs. I’m greedy. I want immediate results. Of course, I’m aware this is pretty immediate.
It’s inspiring enough for me to continue for ten weeks, with occasional variations.
I’d also have to get to Crossfit more regularly. As of Monday, I’m going everyday. Really.
Gawain – A 4 pound weight loss is great. Remember that is 4 pounds you will never see again, stick with it!
That is so great Gawain! I lost about 2 pounds but was thinking it was a fluke. COngrats on your loss! Hopefully I’ll be following in your footsteps.
You ROCK! Four pounds is a great week!
One other thing to try if you want to lose more weight is to introduce a second or third work out during the day to keep your metabolism boosted. If you do CF in the AM, maybe do 30 mins of cardio in the PM, like before dinner. If you want to get really sporty, you could also try going for a lunchtime walk, even for as short as 15 mins, and then do something more vigorous before dinner, like some treadmill or eliptical work. I think you’ll find that this would increase your weight loss without (1) having to lower your calorie intake or (2) increasing injury, since on top of CF, you don’t need more lifting or brutal metcon, just walking with a bit of incline will do wonders on top of your WOD.
Joe’s advice is intriguing. But don’t forget the need for R&R! Extra workouts, 2 a days, sometimes helped me when I was trying to lose weight. But they also tend to contribute towards an overtrained, fatigued feeling that is conducive to nothing. So be careful!
Also Gawain, you could always go dancing if you want additional exercise. And it’d be a good test as to whether you can maintain your alcohol ban and stay away from nasty food while back in one of your favorite Salsa haunts. Just a thought.
We ought to be able to live with balance. But when we live so far out of balance for so long (I speak only of myself) it is a GREAT relief to exercise strict control for a while. And, that’s a form of balance too.
I agree (as usual) with MB about the importance of R&R, so I’ll clarify that I meant to add a low-key second workout, like a brisk walk on the treadmill with some incline to it…just something to get the blood pumping but not so much that you run yourself into the ground…
Actually, I used to refrain from drinking when I went salsa dancing. I needed to drive home, and bottles of Presidente were $7. Then a couple clubs stopped offering salsa because most salseros don’t drink. They weren’t making any money. So I started drinking a couple glasses to do my part.
Last night I went dancing and stuck to seltzer. It’s a habit I’m cultivating.
I’ll probably do a few limited second workouts a week, that include some running or swimming. Swimming is meditative for me, and my dojo has begun suggesting limited second workouts. Dancing is probably the best one.
